
Oak Park is located in Cook County, just 10 miles west of Chicago’s loop.
Oak Park evolved from the land purchased by Joseph Kettlestrings in 1837. By 1871, the settlement continued to boom as a result of the Great Chicago Fire. At this time, Oak Ridge was renamed Oak Park to match the name of the Post Office serving the area. The name was reinforced further in 1872 when the railroad station serving the area was named Oak Park. Oak Park was incorporated in January 25, 1902 and is known for a thriving arts community. As of the 2000 census, Oak Park had a population of 52,524.
Frank Lloyd Wright spent the first 20 years of his 70-year career in Oak
Park, building numerous homes in the community, including his own.
