Norridgege is located 15 miles NW of the Loop. Norridge shares 70 percent of its border with Chicago.

The name "Norridge" was suggested by resident Mrs. Link. "Nor" comes from Norwood Park Township, and "Ridge" comes from the nearby suburb of Park Ridge.

Norridge is sometimes referred to as "Island Within A City", because along with nearby Harwood Heights, it is surrounded by Chicago on all sides. The annual Island in the City Festival takes place each summerat Norridge Community Park.

Norridge has more shopping and industry than its neighbor, Harwood Heights. Norridge does not charge its residence real estate taxes. The landmark Norridge theater is a northwest side institution, that has been open since the 60's

Norridge was incorporated, by referendum, on December 4, 1948. As of the 2000 census, Norridge had a population of 14,582.

Famous people from Norridge include, Eleni Kaldis, a member of the Happiness Club and President Joseph Sieb who was the longest serving Head of a Municipality.
