
Kenilworth is named after a town in the midlands of England. Joseph Sears the founder of the village, planned a North Shore village in the image of the bucolic English countryside. In 1899, the village adopted, street names such as Abbotsford and Essex, taken from Sir Walter Scott's novel Kenilworth.
Kenilworth is located approximately 17 miles north of downtown Chicago.
The Village of Kenilworth was incorporated in 1869. As of the 2000 census, Kenilworth had a population of 2,494.
